About Alexandrite

Alexandrite was originally discovered in Russia’s Ural Mountains in the 1830s. It is now found in Sri Lanka, East Africa, and Brazil, but fine material is exceptionally rare and valuable. It is a blue-green color changing chrysoberyl that turns red in incandescent light. Although alexandrite remains extremely rare and expensive, the production of a limited amount of new material means a new generation of jewelers and collectors have been exposed to this beautiful gemstone, creating an upsurge in popularity and demand.
